International Child and Youth Circus Festival “World Full of Wonder-2016” is over

Riga Circus is an experienced organizer of international circus festivals, having a stable place

in the circus festival calendar of the European Circus Association. World Full of Wonders

is an international children and youth circus festival gathering the young participants aged

from 5-6 to 25 from different countries. Since 2011, festivals organized by Riga Circus are

included in the Collaboration Programmes entered into between the Ministry of Culture of

our country and those of other countries.

This is already the tenth international children and youth circus festival World Full of Wonders

As the circus building at present is closed for the visitors due to technical issues, this year the

festival will be held from July 29 - 31 in the circus tent at Lucavsala.

This year, Riga Circus has received 76 applications from representatives of different countries

applying for participation in a variety of traditional circus genres. Upon selection, 50 participants

from 6 countries - Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Russia, the Ukraine and Belarus - will be

approved for participation in the festival, in total - representatives from 15 circus schools and

studios. The list of participants will be specified as soon as issuing of their visas is confirmed. (Due

to protracted preparatory work, refusal of the State Culture Capital Foundation to grant funding, and

postponed festival dates, participants of a number of countries have dropped out (including those

from Switzerland, Sweden, Uzbekistan, Spain).

Performances of both shows will be judged by an international jury (representatives from

Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, the Ukraine, Belarus, and Latvia).

During the shows, spectators will have a possibility to choose his/her favourite contestant which,

upon summarizing voting results, will be awarded with a spectators' choice award at the Gala show

of the festival.

All shows of the contest will have equally good artistic quality, the performances of the same genre

will be lined-up equally, thus ensuring equal rules for all contestants. At the end of the both shows,

the jury will decide which nomination to confer to which participant, which contestants will earn

the right to perform at the Gala show.

July 31

From 11:00 to 13:00 there will be a free of charge show-master class given by the festival

participants in Rīgava Music and Art Garden of Salaspils. The event is supported by Salaspils

Council, community centres Rīgava and Enerģētiķis. The meeting of the participants of the festival

with the people from Salaspils and students from Salaspils circus studio "Arlekīns" will serve as a

good stimulus for the children to practice circus art in their leisure time.

13:00 and 17:00 - in a circus tent at Lucavsala, the Gala show and awarding of the prizewinners. The winners

of the main and special prizes, as well as performers of the most impressive performances will take

part in the show.
